Vacation Wins!

August 25th, 2008

Our last poll question asked if you would be staying home this summer due to high gas prices or hitting the road for your traditional vacation.  It seems that the majority of you stayed the course and took your vacation.

We have a new poll up now about Obama and his VP pick.  Let us know what you think.  Is Biden the right man for the job?

Thanks for participating.  Remember, we can’t see who is voting, so go ahead…vote!

Hillary Gets the Shaft

August 25th, 2008

As I scurry to get ready for work this morning, I am amused by all the hoopla over the Hillary/Bill speeches to be made at the Democratic Convention this week.  It occurs to me that Obama-ites would not be in such a tizzy had they just done the right thing…nominate Hillary as the VP.

Casting all my beliefs aside, I gotta say, she deserved the nomination.  And, mark my word; if he loses the presidential bid, the name Hillary Clinton is going to haunt him for the rest of his life.

Make-Up Counter Remorse

August 21st, 2008

Please tell me someone else out there has done what I did today! I need to know I am not alone! I have recently had a major eye/cornea problem and needed to throw out mascara, contacts, etc and start clean. I have been wearing my glasses and no eye makeup all week.

So I pranced myself into my favorite make-up counter where they were having an EVENT! It’s not just called makeovers anymore, it’s an EVENT. LUCKILY for me, they had an opening. I sat down and let someone make me over. They even had a specialist in from New York who worked with this particular line. She came over and gave me some tips. At this point, I want everything they have just put on my face. So I started picking out what I was going to get. I went from buying new mascara to buying…..I can’t even say! She rang it up and I gasped. I put a couple of things back, but it still didn’t help much.

So now I am having make-up remorse. I think I am going to go back tomorrow (when the EVENT is over) and take a couple of things back. Is there anyone out there who has done this but me? Do I need help? is there an acronym for this like MCRS for Make-Up Counter Remorse Syndrome.

I have to go now, I need to go clean and moisturize my face with my new products!

Did They Ask the 5 Year Old??

August 20th, 2008

Hi. Kim here. Yes, I have been away for a while but thank goodness, work has settled down a bit and I am able to unscramble my brain.

Unlike my mother, I have not been tied to NBC every night watching the Olympics. Oh I enjoy them, but when my ADD kicks in, there is only so much I can handle. And I have this really wierd syndrome of being extremely nervous and embarassed for other people so if they do badly, I take it personally. I know. I told you I was wierd.

Anyway…I was flipping back and forth a couple of nights ago between some old movie and the Olympics. At one point, I end up on NBC and what I saw made me sit straight up on the couch! A trampoline??? As an event??? What in the world? Did they run out of events for the summer Olympics and ask a five year old what we should add? How about the trampoline…sure!

What did you when a gold medal in?

Trampoline.

Oh. Ummm….great.

I’m sure it is quite difficult and takes emmense skill but I just can’t get over it. What’s next…wiffle ball? Jacks? Hopskotch?

Mother Nature

August 17th, 2008

I recently visited my doctor because . . . well . . . let’s just say that it was time to see what Mother Nature was up to.    She was wearing out her welcome in a hurry as she made not one, but several monthly visits when she wasn’t invited.      Anyhoo - a friend mentioned to me this morning that she was having some of these same issues and she was becoming quite irritable at home because of these inconvenient visits.

I can sympathize with her and I’m sure some of you can, too.     It occured to me that while I was going about my business, helping people with problems, being involved at my church, doing my job that I love, that I was so sweet to everyone and helpful . . . everyone loves me!    YEAH ME!      OUCH!    Sorry . . . that was God thumping me in the head.   Time to get back to reality!      Also, I was right the opposite at home - mad, angry, nothing pleased me, frustrated with everyone - I was the Monster of the House!

My friend asked me what did I do to to overcome this situation?    Don’t you love questions like this?  After all, one doesn’t want their family to hate them, right?!        I don’t want to answer this question!    What if what I did, doesn’t work for her?     What if she tells somebody what I did and they don’t agree with it?     What if, what if, what if . . . our discussion lingered a while and we had some laughs!

Well, Mother Nature is still around, but a little less visual.     I’ve chosen to sedate her with a little vitimin to keep her at a distance as much as possible!     I don’t think she’s aware of it, though.    Sometimes it’s best to fool Mother Nature!

20 hours and $150 later

August 16th, 2008

Well….the dreaded garage sale day has come and gone. I swore 4 years ago that I would never have another. But I guess I am a glutton for punishment. Several weeks ago, when I decided that we needed to totally purge our house, I decided to have a garage sale. So I happily went about going through each room to pick out the stuff we really didn’t need. (which is really half my stuff when you think about it) I must have a lamp addiction because I found about 9 lamps I haven’t used in years. Read the rest of this entry »

Today I Am Thankful For…

August 12th, 2008

As I leave for work, it occured to me that I have much to be thankful for today.  Here are just a few things:

  • The slow rain
  • My job
  • Daughters

What are you thankful for today?

Same Song, Second Verse

August 11th, 2008

It seems that John Edwards has been singing the same song as Bill Clinton did back in the 90’s.  However, it looks like John didn’t learn anything from his fellow Democratic politian Bill Clinton.  Remember Clinton’s famous words?  “It depends on what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is. If the–if he–if ‘is’ means is and never has been, that is not–that is one thing. If it means there is none, that was a completely true statement….Now, if someone had asked me on that day, are you having any kind of sexual relations with Ms. Lewinsky, that is, asked me a question in the present tense, I would have said no. And it would have been completely true.”  Just define “it” and Bill would let us dense Americans know that in his mind, he wasn’t having an affair.   John Edwards must have thought if he sang the same song, we’d fall for it hook, line and sinker.  John Edwards denials, then admissions and more denials during the admissions, will ultimatley get him into deeper trouble.  Don’t you think he would learn from others mistakes?

Do You Believe In Angels?

August 11th, 2008

Last week I got a call that all moms don’t want to get.  It was my daughter, Joey, and she was crying uncontrollably.  I knew something was wrong.  Just before she called me, I was riding home from work, having a really good pity party.  I’m sure you’ve never done that?  When my phone rang, I figured she was calling me to tell me that she had arrived at her friend’s house in Georgia.  That went out the window as soon as I heard her voice.  She quickly told me that she had had a wreck.

“Calm down.  It’s ok.  You are alive.  Is anyone hurt?  Just calm down.”  It isn’t a very good feeling to know your child has had a wreck hundreds of miles away from you, so I quickly prayed that God would help her…and just as quickly, my pity party ended.

E-Z Bake Anyone?

August 7th, 2008

Does anyone remember the e-z bake oven? It was one of my favorite toys growing up. I still remember the smell and taste of those delightful little chocolate cakes. I loved pulling the little tray out with the spatula! My sister, who is ten years older, would save up her allowance money so she could buy me e-z bake supplies. So I couldn’t wait to buy my daugher her e-z bake. My sister actually bought it for her! We had such fond memories of that together. However, buy the time my daughter got her oven she had already been baking with me for awhile. Somehow the appeal of a tiny little cake baked didn’t win out over a pan full of muffins or decorating sugar cookies. We baked a thing or two and then it got pushed to the back of the cabinet. Did anyone else have an e-z bake? What was your favorite childhood toy? Remember the Chrissy Doll with hair that pulled out and went back or the Bionic Woman Barbie Doll whose armed flipped open to show her bionics! I miss those things!
